Servers reach this page one way. Somebody who runs one submits it, a moderator reads the listing before it goes live, and the address is pinged on a short cycle from then on. All 341 listings work like that. The player counts, version numbers and online dots come from those pings rather than from anything an owner typed into a form, which is why a listing can sit there showing its own server as offline. Right now the list is reporting 306,426 players across 337 servers that answered their last ping.

How the ranking works

The order above is votes cast in the current calendar month, highest first, with players online right now as the tie-breaker. Monthly totals reset at midnight UTC on the first, so a server that was busy last year has to earn its position again, and a server that launched last week can reach the top of the page in a month. One vote per server, per person, per day, counted against a salted hash of the voter's IP address rather than the address itself.

Nothing else in that order can be bought. Sorting by players, rating or newest is always one click away, and the featured slot at the top of this page is the only paid placement anywhere on the site — it is labelled every time it appears.
