Economy Minecraft Servers for 1.8

Every Economy server on the list that runs Minecraft 1.8, ranked by votes this month. Point releases count, so a server reporting 1.8.4 is listed here too.

How to tell a working economy from a printed one

An economy server makes money the point. You earn through jobs, farming, mining or a shop of your own, and you spend in a market that other players stock. Chest shops down a spawn street, an auction house command and a balance leaderboard nobody can catch are the usual furniture.

The health of that market is easy to test. Look at what the admin shop buys items for. If it pays a fixed price for wheat or cobblestone with no daily cap, currency is being printed and prices will spiral within weeks. Servers with a working economy sell very little themselves and let players set the prices.

Ask how old the current world is and whether balances have ever been reset. Joining a two-year-old economy as a new player means competing with people who hold billions; joining a fresh season means everyone is poor together and the first shop on the street can be yours.

Why 1.8 refuses to die

Version 1.8, the Bountiful Update, is from 2014. It added ocean monuments, prismarine, armour stands, slime blocks, granite, diorite and andesite. None of that explains why servers still advertise it. The reason is 1.9: the combat update gave weapons an attack cooldown, and a large part of the PvP community decided the game had been made worse.

So 1.8 stayed as the PvP standard. Practice servers, factions, kitmaps and most competitive networks either run it or emulate its combat on a modern jar. Click speed, knockback control and rod-and-pot fights are the skill set, and the people who play it have been refining the same mechanics for more than a decade.

You rarely need a 1.8 client any more. Large networks run current Paper builds behind ViaVersion and accept clients from 1.8 upwards, and plugins can restore the old combat behaviour on a modern server. A listing that says 1.8 usually means 1.8 clients are welcome, not that anyone is running a jar from 2014.
