SMP Minecraft Servers for 1.21

Every SMP server on the list that runs Minecraft 1.21, ranked by votes this month. Point releases count, so a server reporting 1.21.4 is listed here too.

Small worlds that have been running for years

SMP stands for survival multiplayer, but on a server list it usually means something more specific: a small, long-running world with a community that knows each other, often whitelisted or application-only. Fewer plugins, fewer resets, and far more shared history than a public server accumulates.

These are the servers where spawn was built by players over several years, where somebody runs a shop because they felt like it rather than for profit, and where a griefing incident is a community event rather than a support ticket. The application exists to keep it that way, so expect a few questions on Discord and a day of waiting.

Check how long the world has run, how many people are online at your play time, and whether a map reset is planned. A good SMP is worth writing an application for, but a dead one is very dead — read a week of the Discord before you spend an evening on the form.

What 1.21 added, and why it took servers a while to move

Tricky Trials landed in June 2024, and its centrepiece is the trial chamber: a generated copper-and-tuff dungeon full of trial spawners that stop producing once you clear them. Run one with an ominous bottle active and the vaults pay out better. It also brought the Breeze, the Bogged and the mace, which hits harder the further you fall onto something.

For a server, the crafter mattered more than any of that. Automated crafting had been a modded feature for a decade, and having it in the base game changes what a redstone farm can do without a single plugin. Copper bulbs and the full tuff block set filled out building palettes at the same time.

The 1.21 line kept moving after release — the pale garden and the creaking arrived in 1.21.4, and later point releases added more again. That is worth remembering when you read a listing, because 1.21 can mean anything from 1.21.1 to the newest patch. Most servers run Paper behind ViaVersion and accept a range of clients, so connecting is usually the fastest way to find out.
